How We Tackled This Tough Order

Starbucks, the global coffee giant, came to us for a large batch of high‑borosilicate glass tumblers with their classic mermaid logo. Sounds simple, but the order was huge, the deadline was tight, and Starbucks quality standards are famously strict – no room for slip‑ups.
The Pain Points

The material is high‑borosilicate glass – great for heat resistance and strength, but much trickier to work with than ordinary glass.

The process required lampworking hand‑blowing – not machine‑pressed. It relies on skilled artisans using torches to melt and shape the glass, so production speed is naturally limited.

The mermaid logo had to be razor‑sharp – no blurring, no missing details. That’s their brand identity.

The tumblers had to handle boiling hot drinks without cracking.

Big volume + short timeline – enough to make any manufacturer sweat.

How We Made It Happen

1. Material choice – We used food‑grade high‑borosilicate glass with a thermal expansion coefficient of just 3.3×10⁻⁶/K, so it can go from ‑20°C to 150°C without breaking. It stays clear and chemically stable over time.

2. Hand‑blowing, but faster – We stuck with hand‑blowing because it gives better glass uniformity, no mold lines, and consistent wall thickness. Our master artisans know their fire and timing. We set up multiple workstations and dedicated extra teams to boost output without sacrificing quality.

3. Logo quality locked down – The mermaid had to be perfect. We set up several inspection checkpoints along the line, with every single tumbler visually checked under standard lighting – position, colour, clarity – and we ran adhesion tests to make sure the logo wouldn’t wash off after repeated use.

4. Quality control to the core – We monitored every step: in‑process checks during blowing, and 100% final inspection on every piece for scratches, stress points, and logo defects. We also pulled random samples for thermal shock testing to verify heat resistance.
