Custom Glass Incense Burners for Wellness and Home Fragrance Brands
Some products are small, but they can carry a whole feeling.

That was the idea behind this project. A wellness brand from the Netherlands came to BO-Glass with a simple but thoughtful request: they wanted a glass incense burner that did not look like a typical incense burner.
The first design was inspired by a smooth river pebble. Later, after strong sales, the client came back for a second version shaped like a fallen leaf.
Both designs needed to feel calm, natural, tactile, and premium. They also had to hold incense securely, support custom colors, and carry the client’s logo in a subtle, permanent way.
For BO-Glass, this was a perfect example of how custom glass can combine function, emotion, and brand identity in one small object.
Custom Glass Incense Burners
The Challenge
The client wanted an incense burner that felt more like a small sculpture than a standard fragrance accessory.
The first design was a flat, smooth pebble shape. It needed to feel heavy and solid in the hand, sit stable on a table, and include a small recessed hole for stick incense.
The product also had to support incense cones, which meant the surface needed to be wide enough and stable enough for practical use.
Color was another key requirement. The brand wanted muted, earthy tones such as sage green, terracotta, charcoal, milky white, and later autumn amber. These colors had to match the calm, natural feeling of the wellness market.
The second design was more difficult. The client wanted a leaf shape with a stem and subtle vein texture. Unlike the pebble, the leaf was asymmetrical. If the glass flowed unevenly during forming, one side could become too thick, the base could lose balance, or the incense hole could tilt.
The vein texture also had to be carefully controlled. It needed to be visible and touchable, but not too sharp. If the mould texture was too deep, it could trap air, create weak points, or make the surface uncomfortable to handle.
The incense hole was one of the most important details. If it was not straight, the incense stick would lean or fall. The client needed beauty and function at the same time.

Our Solution
BO-Glass developed two custom high-borosilicate glass incense burner designs: a smooth pebble shape and an organic leaf shape.
Instead of treating them as simple glass ornaments, we designed each piece around how the customer would actually use it: holding it, placing it on a table, inserting incense, seeing the color in soft light, and keeping it as part of a home ritual.
High-Borosilicate Glass for Strength and Clarity
We selected high-borosilicate glass because it offers good clarity, heat resistance, and mechanical strength.
For a product used with incense, heat resistance matters. The burner may be placed near flame, ash, and warm incense material. High-borosilicate glass gives better stability than ordinary glass and helps the product feel safer and more durable.
The material also supports beautiful color effects. With the right formulation, the glass can carry soft earthy colors while keeping a clean, premium appearance.
This is where BO-Glass adds value: we do not only make a shape. We help choose the right material for how the product will actually be used, handled, and displayed.
Pebble Shape: Smooth, Heavy, and Calm
For the pebble design, we used a two-piece cast-iron mould.
The glass was formed into a smooth, flat oval shape inspired by a river stone. The mould surface was polished to create a glossy finish, and the rim was fire-polished to remove sharp edges.
The incense hole was formed while the glass was still soft by inserting a tapered metal pin from the top. This allowed the hole to fit standard 2 mm stick incense securely.
The finished pebble weighed around 250 grams, giving it a solid, satisfying feel in the hand. This weight helped the product feel more premium and stable.
Leaf Shape: Organic Texture with Hand Finishing
After the pebble design sold well, the client asked for a second shape inspired by a fallen leaf.
For this version, BO-Glass developed a new mould with subtle vein patterns engraved into the mould surface. During forming, the hot glass picked up the texture from the mould.
After cooling, we used light sandblasting to soften the vein texture. This made the surface feel organic rather than sharp or scratchy.
The stem was shaped by hand using a steel tool while the glass was still hot. This gave each leaf a slight natural variation. No two pieces were exactly identical, which the client appreciated because it made the product feel closer to nature.
With BO-Glass, the client did not have to choose between repeatable production and a handmade feeling. We combined controlled mould forming with hand finishing to create a product that was consistent enough for retail, but still felt special.

Custom Color Development
Color was an important part of the brand experience.
We used metal oxides to create different tones, including green, charcoal, blue-grey, milky white, terracotta, and warm amber. For the leaf version, the client especially wanted an autumn amber color to match the seasonal design.
Before production, we made small color samples and sent them to the client for approval under daylight and candlelight. This helped the client choose colors based on real use conditions, not just factory lighting.
For wellness and home fragrance products, color is not only decoration. It shapes the feeling of the product. BO-Glass helped the client turn color into part of the brand story.
Logo Engraving
The client wanted the logo to be subtle and permanent.
We engraved the lotus-shaped logo on the underside using a diamond point, then filled the engraving with clear silicone resin to make it more visible without making it too bold.
For the leaf design, the logo was placed near the stem end so it looked like part of the natural vein structure.
This gave the brand a clean identity detail while keeping the product elegant and minimal.
Incense Hole Accuracy
The incense hole had to be straight and reliable.
BO-Glass used a steel alignment jig during pin insertion to keep the hole perpendicular to the base. The hole diameter was controlled within ±0.2 mm, allowing the incense stick to stand upright without wobbling or leaning too far.
This small detail made a big difference in daily use.
A beautiful incense burner that cannot hold incense properly is not a successful product.
That is why BO-Glass checks both appearance and function.
Stability and Safety Testing
The client cared about safety because many of their customers use the products in yoga studios, meditation rooms, and home environments.
We tested the glass burners by dropping them from waist height onto a wooden floor. The high-borosilicate glass pieces survived without shattering.
This gave the client more confidence that the product could handle real daily use, not just look good in photos.

The Result
The first pebble incense burners sold out within two months.
After that success, the client returned to BO-Glass for the leaf version. The leaf burner launched in their autumn catalogue and quickly became popular, especially in the warm amber color.
The product was later featured in a Scandinavian design magazine, where it was described as a small object with a calming, natural feeling.
BO-Glass has since produced more than 5,000 pieces across the pebble and leaf designs. The client is now discussing a third shape, a crescent moon, for a nighttime relaxation collection.
For the client, the project proved that a simple incense burner could become a signature wellness product when the material, shape, color, texture, and function were developed carefully.
For BO-Glass, it showed how our custom glass capability can help brands move from one successful idea to a complete product family.

Why Choose BO-Glass?
BO-Glass helped the client solve both the emotional and technical sides of the project.
The product needed to feel calm and natural, but it also had to stand firmly, hold incense correctly, resist heat, survive handling, and meet retail quality expectations.
With high-borosilicate glass, custom moulds, hand finishing, color development, light sandblasting, accurate hole forming, logo engraving, and durability checks, BO-Glass delivered incense burners that were beautiful, functional, and ready for the market.
Our strength is not only producing glass shapes. It is helping brands turn an idea into a real product collection: one that feels good in the hand, looks right in the home, works properly in daily use, and can evolve into new designs over time.
For wellness brands, home fragrance companies, gift suppliers, and premium décor collections, BO-Glass can create custom glass products that carry both function and feeling.
